Russell Thompson, a native Houstonian and award-winning Worship Leader, has been ministering in music since 1973, when he joined his home church choir. Then in 1986 he won 1st prize (10 hours of studio time) in a gospel talent contest. From there he has become a regularly featured artist on TBN and been featured nationally on a CBN special. In the course of his ministry, he has led worship or performed in over 2000 churches internationally, and recorded 3 CD's.
Today, as CEO of Worship at Large, Russell provides a variety of services to the church Body. He hosts a weekly Radio spot, Ten Minute Worship Break on KWWJ Gospel 1360, followed by hours of intercession for callers. His annual Worship Summits and monthly gatherings bring |
| together thousands of worshipers in the Body of Christ across all denominational and cultural lines. And in February 2003, he received the prestigious Gospel Music's Worship Leader of the Year.
He discovered Christ and music at the age of seven. He credits his love for both to his mother who, single-handedly, raised and educated Russell and his three brothers. Her own faith and Godly parenting instilled in him the desire to spread "The Good News" with his strong baritone/tenor voice.
In 1982, after working through Houston Baptist University and Houston Bible Institute, Russell became a licensed minister and stepped out in faith to support his calling with full-time ministry. And in 1989, Russell became an ordained minister.
Married for twenty 24 years to his childhood sweetheart, Anita, Russell is a devoted husband and father of three young adults. Together, the Thompsons promote Christian family values in their home, neighborhood, and community.
