Martha Doolittle is the founder and Artistic Director of the Bard Project, a professional arts production company based in Houston, Texas. Guiding this company into it’s sixth year of production, Martha is driven by a vision of multi-disciplinary creativity, healing and restoration of the displaced believer artist, and unity in the Body of Christ. To that end, the Bard Project “shows” the stories of God’s people throughout the history of Christianity.
“The role of artists in leading their community is first seen with the Levites going before the Israelite soldiers to take possession of the Promised Land,” says Doolittle. “The function of artists has not changed - and now God is calling us forth, transforming the heart of the Church from fear to
|
| blessing, and challenging us to step forward and allow God to fulfill in and through us all that He began and promises to do.”
Martha has pursued an active role in various genres of the arts for most her life. Following her college training in theater, she began her professional career as an actress, costume designer and dramaturg (writer/script consultant) with Houston’s A.D. Players, building a network of contacts within the believer arts community around the world. As an event planner and administrator, Martha has worked with the international Christians in Theater Arts Networking organization on a number of programs.
In 1996, Martha left the A.D. Players to pursue a more focused career in script development and design. And then the vision for exploration of her faith roots through the arts was born. In the Fall of 2000, Martha founded the Bard Project. In the last five years, they have produced several plays and full arts events, participated in numerous arts and worship conferences, and are developing several new works through artists workshop series. Each Bard event has incorporated the professional talents of internationally respected believer-dancers, actors, musicians and visual artists to create a unique blend of stories from around the world.
When Russell Thompson, Jr. became Chairman of The Bard Project in 2004, a partnership began to develop in which worship and arts work together to encourage and inspire Worship in the Body of Christ. Today, under the parent covering Worship At Large, Inc. and Pastor Thompson’s experienced leadership, Martha and the Bard Project, Inc. are exploring a new level of production and ministry with the stories of true faith heroes and their writings of worship.
Martha is the devoted wife of an actor/writer/accountant and mother of a little girl from China, who seems to have inherited all her mother’s dramatic flair and her father’s penchant for structure and logic. They reside in Houston. |
